Primordial Sound Meditation: Using Your Personal Mantra for Meditation
written by Joanne Delmonico, 2025
In the previous two articles in this three-part series, I explained the benefits of meditation and provided some instruction on how to meditate. In this third article, I will give you some information about the Primordial Sound Mantra you can use during meditation and how to receive your personalized mantra.
A mantra is an instrument or vehicle of the mind. There are many different types of mantras based on the culture or tradition. The mantras used in Primordial Sound Meditation have no specific meaning and are used only for their sound or vibrational quality. Thoughts and words have meaning and keep our minds and intellect engaged. Since mantras have no meaning, they interrupt the flow of thoughts and allow your attention to become quieter, which of course is the goal of meditation.
Primordial Sound Mantras are the basic vibrations of nature and came from the ancient Vedic tradition in India. Thousands of years ago, enlightened sages and seers believed that the universe had its own specific sounds, which change over time, based on the cycles of the moon. The Vedic sages recorded the changes in the vibration of the universe in relation to the position of the moon. Using Vedic mathematics, we can calculate the position of the moon to identify the vibration of the world, at the time and place of your birth. This is the sound the universe was singing at the moment you were born. When you use this sound as part of your mantra during meditation, it helps to draw your attention inwards and connect to that moment when you emerged into a conscious state of being. There are 108 different Primordial Sound mantras (the vibration of the universe changes 4 times per day, it takes 27 days for the moon to circle the zodiac, 4X27=108).
Avoid attaching or associating any meaning to your mantra. If you find yourself associating your mantra with a word or a name, let that go and repeat the mantra as a sound or vibration only. If you attach a meaning to the mantra, you will be keeping your awareness at the level of your mind or intellect. It’s better to let your awareness slip beyond the mind.
There are three parts to the Primordial Sound Mantra:
My translation of that is… the complete three-part mantra takes your awareness from a universal, collective state to an individual state and then reconnects you to the moments before you became a conscious being at birth and were just a pure soul. The mantra brings you back to the purest version of yourself before you were conditioned. I acknowledge this is confusing, so just like when I explained the gap, you can forget about this and simply repeat the mantra without thinking about from where the sounds come.
Obtaining Your Personal Primordial Sound Mantra
Fill out the form below and submit it to me. I will do the calculations and send you your own Primordial Sound Mantra to use during meditation. Keep your mantra private and only repeat it silently to yourself, never say it out loud. I will need your date of birth including month, day, and year. I will also need the time of day including AM or PM. And I will need the location of your birth including city and state (and country, if not from the U.S.).
I sincerely wish you the best and hope that you will reap the same benefits that I have from practicing meditation on a daily basis!!

There are three parts to the Primordial Sound Mantra:
- All mantras begin with the sound Om (it sounds like a long OOOOOO and vibrational mmmmmm). Om is considered the universal sound that contains all of the vibrations in the universe. By beginning your mantra with Om, you are starting your meditation from a place that is expanded and unbounded.
- The middle of your mantra is called the “seed.” This is the sound that is based on the vibration of the universe at the moment of your birth. I will explain how to obtain the seed to your mantra in a moment.
- Your mantra ends with the sound NAMAHA (it sounds like na-ma-ha). This sound represents your self looping from the infinity of creation back to a state of unconsciousness.
